Creating connections in the music industry can feel like a huge lift, but it doesn’t have to be intimidating! Here are our go-to tips for growing your network and finding your tribe in the music world:
1. Show Up Where It Matters
Attending industry events and conferences is one of the best ways to meet fellow pros and
start building solid contacts. Since the sold-out inaugural event in 2022, we have participated in THE Conference at Rock Lititz in Lancaster County, PA—well worth the trip each year. We meet tour managers, roadies, and just about everyone else in the business. Sessions cover a
broad range of everything from mentorship and diversity in touring to safety on show site. If you’re headed there this year, give us a shout!
2. Make Social Media Work for You
Platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, and X (formerly Twitter) are goldmines for connecting withother industry pros. Follow, share, and engage by adding thought-provoking comments or asking questions. Dive into hashtags that fit your niche, like #tourmanager, #bookingagent, #musicindustry, or our favorites, #touritup and #takethehighroad. It’s all about staying active and showing up online as much as you do in person.
3. Join Online Music Communities
Yes, we’re going to say it—check out Facebook groups. Even if you roll your eyes, they’re still great places to meet people. Groups like Music Biz Besties and Music Career Networking are
full of artists, managers, and crew sharing insights and advice. And don’t sleep on industry mags like Pollstar or Music Row Magazine. Staying in the loop with the latest trends helps spark conversations with the right people when you’re out there making moves.
4. Reach Out to Your Heroes
Take a few minutes to connect with people you admire in the industry. You never know who
might respond to a friendly message or thoughtful comment. Keep it simple—a quick “Hey,
saw this article and thought of you” is all you need. People appreciate genuine engagement
more than a list of your career goals!
5. Use the Network You Already Have
Sometimes, your next connection is just a degree or two away. Whether it’s a friend, family
member, or neighbor, don’t be shy about asking for introductions if they have ties to the industry. Especially in a town like Nashville, you never know if your neighbor goes to church with Garth’s sound guy or if your kid’s best friend’s mom is Halsey’s publicist. Acknowledge the
value of the relationship when you ask for a little help expanding your circle. Building a network in the music industry is about more than just contacts—it’s about finding
your people, staying informed, and creating genuine relationships that make a difference.
